Don Merritt

Art Director

Don Merritt Jr. began his career by dropping out of the film program at the University of North Texas and opting for a degree in Criminal Justice because he did not want to be the next Spike Lee. Or did he?

After not pursuing a career in crime, he moved to San Francisco and worked in the PR department of Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, which, if you have never heard of it, is where Nicole Kidman’s character worked in the movie Peace Maker. They work with nuclear bombs at that place… and they are probably listening…

In 1998 he moved to NYC and began a freelance career in commercial and television production. Naturally. Working on a wide variety of projects for networks such as Food Network, MTV, VH1, Nickelodeon, TV Land, HBO, Screen Gems, NFL Films, he began to hone his craft. The craft of Procrastination. While honing this craft, Don found himself working in many capacities in “THE BIZ,” including but not limited to: Art Director, Props, Production Manager/Coordinator/Assistant, Transportation, Grip and Staging.

After five successful years in New York, Don made the fateful decision to move to Los Angeles to finally become somebody. FULA. He landed a job with DreamWorks, where he worked in the Marketing and Special Events Department on such films as Shrek 2, House of Sand and Fog, Anchorman, Win A Date With Tad Hamilton, and Eurotrip. He also coordinated film premiers of said movies, as well as screenings for the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (Golden Globes).

Two years feeling like 10 in LA brought Don back to his home in Dallas, TX, to pursue his dream of becoming a Talking Horse wrangler. He currently freelances on a month-to-month basis until something better comes along.
